Most SMBs have no formal mobility policy and are unfamiliar with mobile device management (MDM) technology. If acceptable/unacceptable usage isn’t clearly defined, and employee-owned devices aren’t properly deployed, configured, monitored and managed, costly security breaches will happen.

While more small-to-midsize businesses seem to be adapting flexible work practices and drafting BYOD or “bring your own device” policies for employees, most of these policies either fail to address key security concerns or they’re not strictly enforced.

You can’t simply write a BYOD policy and ignore it. Employees will take liberties and security vulnerabilities will increase. New devices emerge constantly and BYOD policies must not only be enforced but must also continuously evolve. BYOD is an ongoing challenge, not something that becomes an afterthought once it’s implemented.
